Sandy’s Compound is a 30-year-old park complex, opposite of police line Bhagalpur and has easy accesses through public transport modes such as city bus, auto rickshaw and private vehicles. The original land area of approximately 123.34 Acres was fragmented, resulting in a remaining parcel of 83 Acres. Within this remaining parcel, 34.25 Acres is open space, and the rest is designated as an urban forest reserve. By the area cover, it has the potential of being a District Level Park and to serve a population of about 5 Lakhs.
The designing of Sandy's Compound hinges on transforming the space by creating a hierarchy of open areas and linking them with a proper circulation system. The key design interventions involve revitalizing the existing, dilapidated sports complex, converting the unused water body into an adventure zone, and integrating these disparate elements via pathways and a central lake. This strategy ensures the creation of a seamless, multi-functional urban park that maximizes utilization and replaces monotonous spaces with distinct, activated zones.
