The Varanasi Smart City initiative addressed chronic traffic and parking shortages near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple by implementing two innovative projects at the Town Hall campus and Beniabagh park. The core strategy involved constructing subterranean parking facilities (a 200 ECS basement at Town Hall and a 500 ECS underground structure at Beniabagh) and transforming the roofs into fully revitalized podium parks. This design successfully layered critical infrastructure beneath high-quality public green spaces, allowing for the conservation of the historic Town Hall while simultaneously creating amenity-rich zones featuring everything from an Amphitheatre and food court to a Miyawaki forest and specialized recreational areas.
